Sent via email to some Twitter users affected by the “glitch”:
“A notice about recent location sharing on twitter.com
Recently there was an issue with location sharing for people who have turned on Tweeting with a location in twitter.com settings. Since you have this setting turned on and one or more of your Tweets included a location while this issue was ongoing, we want to make sure you understand what happened and how we fixed it.
For less than a week, if you tapped to add an emoji or GIF, a city-level location may have been shared in some of your Tweets. This occurred for a small percentage of people who Tweeted from desktop web twitter.com and had previously enabled Tweeting with location in their twitter.com settings – but may not have intended to tag their city in these specific Tweets. This issue did not occur for people who had Tweeting with a location turned off in their twitter.com settings.
We’ve removed the locations from potentially affected Tweets. If you would like to add location to Tweets on twitter.com in the future, you can turn this feature back on by going to the Tweet composer and clicking on the location icon.
We’re sorry this occurred and will continue our work to make Twitter better for you.
