In a statement published by The Hollywood Reporter, Girls creator/star Lena Dunham and showrunner Jenni Konner came to the defense of “Girls” writer Murray Miller, who stands accused of sexual assault. They cite “insider knowledge of Murray’s situation” for their stance, but many are not convinced.
The internet erupted with anger after Dunham defended the writer on the heels of Actress Aurora Perrineau’s filing of a police report accusing Miller of sexual assault, which he denied in a statement through his attorney on Friday.
Deputy Charles Moore of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Variety that Perrineau filed a report. The Los Angeles Police Department is handling the investigation.
In a statement, attorney Matthew B. Walerstein denied the allegation. “Mr. Miller categorically and vehemently denies Ms. Perrineau’s outrageous claims,” reads the statement. “After being contacted several weeks ago by lawyers who—on Ms. Perrineau’s behalf—sought substantial monetary damages from him, Mr. Miller’s legal team gathered overwhelming evidence directly contradicting these false and offensive claims. Only after her demands for money were rebuffed did Ms. Perrineau go to the police. Mr. Miller looks forward to sharing all evidence and information with any and all authorities seeking the truth in this matter.” source
