Hebron Woman Shot Dead In Maine Hunting Accident Identified

Family members and friends of Karen Wrentzel, of Hebron, took to social media to remember her after she was named as the victim of a Saturday hunting accident. She was 34.

Wrentzel, of Greenwood Mountain Road, was on her property when she was shot and killed, a family member said on Facebook.

Wrentzel’s uncle said in a Facebook post ‘at the very least I can say that you passed doing something you enjoyed… Digging around for rocks, in the side of a mountain, made out of rocks’. Wrentzel’s uncle told News Center she was digging for rocks and gems at the time of the incident. source

Police have identified the shooter but have yet to release a name.

Samhain is a time to honor those who have gone before us. This year I will be holding a Ritual in honor of our dear free spirited friend Karen. I ask any and all to come and celebrate her and tell her what is in your heart. There will be cider and sugar cookies. Candles will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Blessed be. source

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.

  • Karen and her loved ones have been in our hearts and prayers, even more often recently with the approach of the anniversary of her senseless slaughter approaching. Will there be justice for this amazing lady, her family, and her friends? Will Trundy get any more than a suspended sentence, whether or not this goes to trial? Will he be acquitted in the same way another hunter was a few decades before, because he said he thought he was shooting a deer, but instead he had slaughtered Karen Wood as she hung clothing on the line in her yard? Will the defense blame it on Karen, as apparently the wardens/authorities did by default, when they immediately reported after her shooting that she was not wearing HUNTER orange (emphasis "hunter orange" because only hunters are legally required to wear it so that wardens can see them) and had not posted her land? Even when land is posted, all the hunter has to do is say that someone gave him/her permission and/or that s(he) did not see the signs. Yes, that happens. I have had a hunter kill an animal within 80 feet of my house, standing between 2 posted signs that were about 15 feet apart, and while standing at the edge of a paved road. He did not lose his vehicle or gun, or have his license suspended!
