Fats Domino, the inventor of rock and roll with his classic hits, “Blueberry Hill” and “Ain’t That a Shame,” has died, confirmed the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s office in Louisiana. He was 89.
Born “Antoine Domino, Jr.,” the legendary musician hit the music scene in the late 1940’s and went on to produce nearly 50 albums that spanned five decades, including more than 25 gold singles and selling more than 65 million records worldwide. So having accomplished all that, how much was Fats worth at the time of his death? By today’s standards, not all that much.
According to celebritynetworth, Domino passed away with a net worth of $8 million dollars. source
To date, Domino enjoyed 35 songs on the top 40 American charts. He also had five gold records, selling at least a million copies each, all before the year 1955.
Domino stayed active on the music scene and continued to release music late into his life.
During Hurricane Katrina, it was widely thought that he had perished in the storm. Domino and his family chose to stay at home – which he said was due to his wife, Rosemary’s poor health. The area is said to have flooded heavily, after which his home was graffitied with “RIP” among other various messages. However, it was later announced that he had survived the storm and would continue performing.
In 2006, then-President, George W. Bush, visited New Orleans to present Fats with a new National Medal of Arts, to replace the one that was lost in the flood.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
