Family and friends are mourning the senseless shooting death of 20-year-old Alexus Mares, the Texas killed in a violent altercation outside Chulas Sports Cantina, a popular northwest Houston restaurant chain.
Police are seeking at least two suspects after the tragic double shooting that left Mares dead and injured her companion, 26-year-old James Butanda. Thirty to forty shots rang out in the chaos and at least three guns were fired during the shooting.
Mares was shot in the head after an inside argument spilled into the parking lot at the strip mall cantina located at 17125 Hwy 249. Houston, TX.
Butanda was shot in the torso and is listed in critical condition at Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands. Mares was also transported and later pronounced dead.
Family members said Mares had just celebrated her 20th birthday a few weeks ago.
