Michael Chappman Cleveland HS Football Star Shot In Drive-By DIES

Michael Chappman, the high school football player who was seriously injured in a drive-by shooting in Cleveland, has died, confirmed his mother.

Chappman, 17, was at a local park with a group of friends when a passing vehicle opened fire. Chappman was struck on his throwing arm and torso.

Michael had remained hospitalized since after the shooting, and doctors feared he would never walk again.

A GoFundMe account created by family members reads:

Michael Chapman is a 17 year old rising senior at Ginn High in Cleveland, OH. He is also a local star- student athlete, playing quarterback, safety, and wide reciever [sic] for John Hay High School. Michael, who is already being scouted by colleges like Notre Dame and Bowling Green University, has unfortunately had his future threatened by a stray bullet. A victim of the unending violence flooding the streets of Cleveland, Michael has been left paralyzed in the legs after being caught in a drive-by shooting. Michael and his family are seeking financial support for his impending rehabilitation and treatment hoping that he will someday walk again.
