Portsmouth Police have identified Stevie W. Wright as the man involved in a fatal shooting that occurred early Tuesday morning in the city’s Cavalier Manor neighborhood
Officers say they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. EMS pronounced Wright, 37, of Portsmouth, deceased at the scene.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. police responded to the intersection of Greenwood Drive and Viking Street after getting several calls from neighbors who heard gunfire. At this time, detectives do not have any suspect or motive information. Anyone who may have any information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP. h/t wtkr
Wright recently graduated from Tidewater Community College’s welding program and was ready to move “somewhere else” and “start fresh,” said his former girlfriend.
“He was nice, respectful, good-hearted and he would give you the shirt off his back,” said Kristy Wynn. She said she dated Wright for nine years and he helped raise her three children, even though they were not his. The two broke up in 2009 but still had a good relationship, she said.
“We still raised those kids together,” Wynn said.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
