NC Woman Claims Nail Salon Refused Pedicure Over Her Weight

Lincoln County woman, Tiffany Nelson, claims she was discriminated against while visiting a local nail salon over her weight.

Nelson says she had been frequenting QC Nails and Spa located in Denver, NC., to get regular pedicures without incident for more than a year, when suddenly on her latest visit she was informed by staff members she was unfortunately “too big of a girl” to continue getting pedicures at the salon.

TheCount.com has learned that the “weight limit” on customers is actually the salon’s policy. Channel 9 anchor Liz Foster confirmed that when she asked the owner if there was a weight limit for customers. He replied that there was but he and his wife are still deciding on an exact number. He said they plan to post a sign in the salon informing customers of the new weight limit within the next week or two.

We’re not sure if it’s related to Nelson’s complaint, but the following review along the same lines was recently posted about QC Nails by “Heather M.,” on Yelp;

“I was absolutely appalled by the way a customer was treated by the staff of this nail salon. The young lady and her Mom went in for pedicures and the Mom was told that her daughter couldn’t sit in their chair because she was overweight and would break it.

I have never witnessed anything so cruel in a place of business. I can honestly say I am so glad that wasn’t my daughter because I know it would have ended badly. Body shaming is so wrong and to go for some pampering and leave humiliated is downright disgusting. I will never step foot in the place.”

“It’s not OK. It’s not OK to body shame people. It’s not OK to tell people, ‘Oh, you’re too overweight, you can’t sit in a chair,’” Nelson said. She said a chair never broke while she was there.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office confirms that deputies responded to a disagreement Thursday. Deputies spoke to both Nelson and the salon’s owner and left without filing a report.
