Friendship, TX., police commissioner Johnny Elmore was indicted Tuesday by a Crockett County grand jury after a two-month undercover drug investigation showed he was selling Hydrocodone and Alprazolam from his home and also by delivery, according to a release from the West Tennessee 28th Judicial Violent Crime and Drug Task Force.
Elmore, 77, was caught red handed after selling the prescription drugs to undercover agents assigned to investigate. Friendship is a city in Crockett County, Tennessee. The population was 668 in 2010.
Elmore previously served as Friendship police chief for 26 years. He also told agents he was recently re-elected as a city councilman and that he has served as the city’s police commissioner for the past eight years.
Agents began investigating Elmore in early April after receiving information that he was selling prescription narcotics, according to documents.
Agents purchased Hydrocodone and Alprazolam from Elmore in his home and also by delivery, the release states.
Investigators also executed a search warrant at Elmore’s home where they reportedly found a handgun as well as a blue police light in a pickup truck Elmore used for delivering drugs.
Friendship is located in Crockett County which is located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 3,719. The county seat is Ozona. The county was founded in 1875 and later organized in 1891.
It’s not the first time a member of Tennessee law enforcement has been accused of selling drugs, in 2015, Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security officials arrested Trooper Mark D. Williams on drug charges.
