FDNY battalion chief, Michael Fahy, was killed after a home containing a drug lab exploded in the Bronx Tuesday. At least 20 others were injured in the fiery explosion.

Chief Fahy, a father of three, was killed after being struck in the head by flying debris.

The 17-year veteran responded to a report of a gas leak at 300 West 234th St. near the corner of Tibbett Avenue in Kingsbridge around 6 a.m. Firefighters quickly realized they had discovered a drug lab, and began evacuating neighbors from the surrounding area when the home suddenly exploded, according to officials. At least 20 others were injured in the explosion, including police officers and Con Ed workers. h/t news12

Police Commissioner James O’Neill says the explosion is being treated as a crime scene.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Chief Fahy’s family and friends at this difficult time.
