A claim on social media via a satirical website that hundreds of people had become sickened and died after eating the Patti LaBelle brand Potato Pie are false.
Website ReportQuickly published the talltail claiming hundreds of people had met their demise after consuming ‘Patti’s Sweet Potato Pie,’ a brand of pie named for the singer.
As of November 13th, 234 people have been reported dead after consumption of the famous Patti’s Sweet Potato Pie, which are being pulled off of the shelves of Wal-Mart stores. The popular desert rose to fame after a video review of the pie went viral. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 100,000 pies produced in October and November were tainted with Tetrodotoxin, a venomous substance found in the blue ringed octopus and puff fish. The venom is tasteless and can kill a human being within minutes of consumption. Moments after consumption, a victim will become paralyzed and blood flow to the brain is immediately stopped. According to the CDC, the pies were produced in the same factory that thousands of puffer fish are devenomized and prepared. The CDC and FDA are currently running an investigation on the factory to find out how the pies were tainted. In the meantime, the company has issued a recall on the pies and Walmart will be accepting returns.

If the numbers of dead are inflated we can look to Ted Cruz as one of those starting the cascade of these phony numbers. In successive speeches, beginning in December, he first claimed 237 people died from consuming these pies. As of February 13th, Cruz had pumped up the number of dead from consuming Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pies to an astonishing 1,054 " while thousands lie in hospitals all across our fair land where, I'm sorry to say, they are receiving abysmal care thanks to the horrible vagaries of Obamacare, which has been visited on us all because of our lack of faith," he said outside ABC News in New York City following his discussion with George Stephanopoulos.
So 2 facts to counter #1 if its venom why would this make anyone sick in order for venom to harm someone it must enter the bloodstream and quickly because most venom's quickly decay rapidly into protiens that your digestive system would neutralize.
Another interesting point is if 100,000 pies were made and they were all tainted why is there such a small number of people affected 232 is less than a tenth of 1 percent of 100,000 just saying its all illogical.
Now to folks are say hey its just satire this type of humor is disgusting because alot of americans reject logic, they reject the scientific method, they read stories like these and they tell all of their friends and family to strongly not buy or consume this product ever, this is harmful to that business and it could cost peoples lives because they loose their economic stability after being laid off.
