The miracle of childbirth turned into a double miracle after new mother, Shelly Cawley, woke up from a week-long coma upon hearing her newborn’s cries.
Doctors gave Cawley little hope for recovery, but then dad, Jeremy, had a brilliant idea, he placed their infant child close to mom, who heard the the cries and awoke. Medical personnel at CMC NorthEast is calling the recovery nothing short of a miracle.
“I clearly remember laying on the stretcher to take me back to the operating room and I was crying. I was telling the doctors that I was scared that I wasn’t going to wake up from my surgery.
Which is kind of eerie to look back on because I was right.” Shelly said. “It was an emergency C-section. Shelley had to be put to sleep so I wasn’t allowed in there.” said Jeremy Cawley, Shelly’s husband. During the surgery a blood clot broke loose sending Shelly into a coma. “She had a lot of fluid in her lungs, there were having trouble getting oxygen to her brain, they were having trouble with her blood pressure up.” Jeremy said. “And it just seemed as if she was done fighting.” “We knew skin to skin contact is very beneficial to an infant, so we thought why not try it for a mom. Because the baby already thriving she was doing great.” h/t wfmynews2
Shelly started to get better and now is fully recovered leaving Nurses stunned.
The couple has written a book about their journey in the hopes of inspiring others to keep their faith, and to raise money to pay for medical bills.
