Sources say Travers Mackel the so-called “brain-eating amoeba” was detected in the Montegut area.
Terrebonne Parish officials said a 60-day chlorine burn will begin to help ensure that any remaining amoeba in the system are eliminated. While tap water in the affected area is safe for residents to drink, health officials urge residents to avoid getting water in their noses.
