The collective cries of young girls everywhere (and some adults alike) can be heard after Zayn Malik announced he has officially quit One Direction.
The abrupt exit from the mega-popular boyband came shortly after Malik was forced to defend his relationship with his fiancee, Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards. The band confirmed the earth-shaking news in a statement.

Malik said: “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band.
“I’d like to apologise to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right.”
One Direction will continue their world tour as a four piece and record a fifth album later this year. h/t bbc
