A former business partner of the McStay family has been arrested over their murders. The McStays, were a Fallbrook family of four found dead in shallow graves just north of Victorville nearly a year to the day.
Charles Ray Merritt, 57, a former business partner of Joseph McStay, was arrested at his Victorville residence and was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
McStay, 40; his wife Summer, 43; and their two sons, Joseph Jr., 3, and Gianni, 4 were discovered in shallow graves on Nov. 11, 2013. The family vanished from their Fallbrook home in February 2010. An off-road motorcyclist discovered the remains, which led to the graves. Joseph McStay owned San Clemente-based Earth Inspired Products, specializing in interior water features. Merritt and McStay were business partners in the venture. h/t sbsun
Merritt is being held without bail. Authorities have not yet released a motive for the killings.
