Cops in Moore County have arrested a couple over the murder of Elden “Kit” Vanderwal, a popular potter who sold his wares at his Seagrove shop.
Debra Raegan Dorsett, 23 and her boyfriend, Jesse Levon Martin, 32, of Asheboro, were arrested at a residence in Montgomery County.
Dorsett was a former employee of 71-year-old Vanderwal.
Firefighters responded to Vanderwal’s home in Moore County the morning of Aug. 23. The fire destroyed both his home and his nearby pottery studio. Autopsy results led investigators to rule his death a murder. Martin has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Moore County Detention Center with no bond. Martin is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 25.
