Most might not recognise his face, but Cosimo Matassa was the recording engineer who basically masterminded rock ‘n’ roll.
An unlikely founder of rock, Matassa set up a recording studio in his father’s New Orleans appliance store and went on to discover the likes of Little Richard and Fats Domino.
Matassa was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with The Beastie Boys, Guns ‘n’ Roses and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. He was most recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award.
