Penelope Cruz and hubby Javier Bardem issued an open letter accusing Israel of being the aggressor in the Gaza conflict.
Then, in a change of heart, motivated by the realization a Palestinian will likely not be the source of her next booking, she tried to walk it all back..
“Gaza is living through horror these days, besieged and attacked by land, sea and air. Palestinians’ homes are being destroyed, they are being denied water, electricity [and] free movement to their hospitals, schools and fields while the international community does nothing.”
Then came the walk-back via claims of ignorance. Agreed.
“I don’t want to be misunderstood on this important subject. I’m not an expert on the situation and I’m aware of the complexity of it. My only wish and intention in signing that group letter is the hope that there will be peace in both Israel and Gaza. I am hopeful all parties can agree to a cease fire and there are no more innocent victims on either side of the border. I wish for unity, and peace… I believe in a civilization that can be capable of bringing the courage to have a world where humans can live side by side.” source
So Israel is supposed to trust terrorists to move forth peacefully? Remember kiddies, (and booking agents, producers, etc,) never forget..

James, you're wrong. Here's why:
1. Israel gets our tax dollars but Hamas gets money from Qatar and other Islamist extremists who are right now wishing death to USA, death to democracy, etc...
2. Israel is the only democratic country in the Middle East. They are in the middle of a part of the world that breeds extremist Islam. We need Israel as our ally in case s**t hits the fan in the future. They're testing weapons like the Iron Dome for us. Not to mention they are doing an absurd amount of technological research and development that will be useful to us.
3. Gaza also receives humanitarian aide from Israel, food, construction supplies, even the items needed to make a nuclear power plant and power it. Guess what Hamas does with most of the aide? They take it from Gazans and use it to make their tunnels, no...not for aide, not to get more help for their fellow Gazans...just to kill and provoke fighting. Why does Hamas need to fight? See number 4.
4. Hamas is a business. No war means no money from Qatar, no money for their cronies who run Hamas. It's corruption 101. Where do you think the money for rockets comes from? Hamas is run by a group of idiots. What would these idiots do if they had peace? They would be out of jobs. They would be rebels without a cause, they loose power. They would have to look for real jobs like the rest of Gazans. So instead Hamas riles up the people, causes chaos for a while, then cashes in from donations from extremists for a few years with their "oh we're poor and isolated without freedom," but never really wanting to go all the way with talks with Israel for a real and concrete solution.
5. For Gazans to have a real chance at a solution, they need to get rid of Hamas. For Israel to stop being terrified of opening the gates of Gaza, they need to know Hamas is no more. James, the reality is much more complicated than Israel vs. Palestine. Think more broadly.
6. You say "The people of Gaza are treated as bad as the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto ( minus the gas chambers, of course )." ......really? minus the gas chambers...minus A LOT of things. So it's really NOT like the Warsaw Ghetto. You create a disservice to the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto when you mention things like this. Before Israel was established, Palestinians didn't even have buildings there, that was their choice, that's just how they lived. Thanks to Israel they got supplies, money, and aide to make Gaza into a city, but now the situation is dire...not because of Israel's fault, but because of Hamas and their cronies.
Anyone living in Gaza would become a terrorist. It's human nature. The people of Gaza are treated as bad as the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto ( minus the gas chambers, of course ). I support Israel's right to exist, but they don't have the right to do what they do. Both Hamas and the Israeli government are terrorists. The difference is that Hamas is obscenely outgunned by Israel ( thanks to our tax dollars )
