The staging had already arrived and was being installed when suddenly without explanation, and a mere 10 days before the highly anticipated opening, “Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour”, set to open in New Orleans on June 9, and run nationwide for two months, was canceled.. In its entirety.
This was no slouch production! The cast included Incubus frontman Brandan Boyd, John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd, ‘N Sync’s JC Chasez and Destiny’s Child singer Michelle Williams.
A notice on the official website blandly notes:
Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, announced today the cancellation of the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour. The tour was scheduled to kick off in New Orleans on June 9. All purchased tickets will be refunded. Tickets purchased online and via telephone will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased from outlets/venue box office must be returned to that location for refund.
Ben Forster, aka, Jesus tweeted:
“My heart is broken. My beautiful talented cast and company I adore. This wonderful show & opportunity is over. I’m so sorry I am devastated.”
