NYC Meatpacking District restaurant, Bagatelle, has just debuted a $1,000 ice cream sundae on its menu.
According to a press release, the pricey “Maboussin Mega Sundae” is made from two of scoops of vanilla ice cream and Dom Perignon Rose sorbet topped with chocolate truffles, macarons, whipped cream, chocolate vodka sauce, and “gilded brownies,” plus the obligatory sprinkling of gold leaf. source
It also comes with a Maboussin ring made of black steel and white gold, which is, somewhat disappointingly, served on the side instead of buried like treasure in the fudge sauce.
The ring itself is priced at $530 on the Mauboussin website, which means that diners are really paying $470 for the ice cream, gold leaf, and chocolate vodka sauce concoction. The city’s only other $1,000 sundae is the one at expensive food specialist Serendipity 3, which includes gold-coated almonds, sugar paste flowers, and the world’s most expensive chocolate sauce, but no jewelry.
