NEW Nelson Mandela Statue Has BUNNY EARS?

A brand new, HUGE statue of late African president, Nelson Mandela, is billed as the largest statue the former leader — It also has a tiny, barely visible rabbit living inside one of the massive bronze ears.

South African officials say they want the bunny removed from the ear of the statue,

“It doesn’t belong there,” said Mogomotsi Mogodiri, a department spokesman. “The statue represents what everyone in South Africa is proud of.”

 
His department said in a statement that there are discussions on “how best to retain the integrity of the sculpture without causing any damage or disfigurement.”

Turns out the rabbit is the ‘calling card’ of a pair of artist commissioned to build the memorial. Telephone calls and emails to the artists were not immediately returned.
