This new anti-anorexia campaign uses sketchy thin pix to send a strong message, “anorexia is cool!” NO, wait, I meant to say, you are “not a sketch..” Okay so that’s it, but either way, is the campaign slogan and accompanying sketches really working? Critics say a resounding “no” because they say the pictures actually give the girls a flowchart to work towards!
The campaign uses real-life fashion sketches and then compares those to that of a real life model, IF she was just as thin as the fashion sketch..
Along with the image is the caption “You are not a sketch. Say no to anorexia.” But it looks like young girls are views the campaign and then saying “no” to food instead!
“Unfortunately I think some women could look to these images for thin-spiration,” one commenter explained.
While another said,
“It is a good campaign for young girls who have not yet succumbed to the Thin Culture of our country, to perhaps nip the tendency in the bud. But for those who are already truly anorexic, these models are their GOAL.”
