We all learned from the nuclear plant accident in Japan that, no matter what, you must keep the core cool, but what happens if the off-site power used to cool the core ceases to exists? Like after this massive snow storm knocked out power, for five days or even weeks? You had better pray to god those diesel backup generators don’t fail…

The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth shut down after losing off-site power. Authorities say there’s no threat to public safety.

Pilgrim automatically shut down after losing offsite power at 9:17 p.m. on Friday. The plant’s diesel generators are currently supplying power to plant equipment.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is monitoring the power plant.

This is a crazy storm! The blowing sand mixed with the snow is making the usually fluffy stuff look and feel just like concrete!
