The movie location for 1989 sports classic “Field of Dreams” has sold for over three million dollars.
Hall-of-Famer Wade Boggs is said to be one of a consortium of investors who closed the deal last week for the 193-acre farm in Dyersville, Iowa.
“My family’s farm has been part of the landscape for more than a century,” Don Lansing said in a press release after news of the sell went public. “I have been honored to take care for it my entire life and know the Stillmans and their group will care for the movie site like I did.”
Reportedly the goal of the new owners is to develop the Field into an All-Star Ballpark Heaven that includes a 24-field youth baseball and softball complex, complete with snack bars, parking lots, and restrooms.
The new owners vowed to preserve the farmhouse and original field where the Kevin Costner flick was shot.
Construction for All-Star Ballpark Heaven is slated to begin this spring, with the first tournament games scheduled for 2014.
