This is one of those footnotes (get it? footnote?) to a story that just makes you scratch your head or as the kid’s call it, SMH…
The incredibly viral story this week about a cop giving a pair of boots to a homeless man resolved in the homeless man removing the shoes… That’s right folks, he’s barefoot again! And get this, he said the boots could have got him killed on the street AND he feels like he’s been ripped off and wants a bigger piece of the money pie! CLASSIC!
When a reporter approached the homeless man to inquired as to the whereabouts of his cop given shoes, the homeless man replied, “Those shoes are hidden, they are worth a lot of money, I could lose my life.” And I guess that’s where the SMH thing comes in…
Now the homeless guy is openly complaining about the fact that he gave no permission for his image to be used on YouTube and every other social media outlet that plastered the events as headline news. “I was put on YouTube,” he told the reporter, “I was put on everything without permission. What do I get? This went around the world, and I want a piece of the pie.”
The random act of kindness was captured on video by an Arizona tourist, who shared the photo with the NYPD. It was then posted on the NYPD’s Facebook page and boom, it went viral, generating more than 600,000 “likes,” 47,000 comments and warmed the cockles of countless hearts.

Joe Muzila, you are definitely something else. While I am not religious, I know quite a few people who are, and it's those like you who give them a bad rap. Don't use religion as an excuse for your actions, in the end we control our own actions.
That said, I recently came across a post from an old friend of mine who works at a marketing firm. He stated how he was shocked to be driving down the street and seeing an old, college educated, colleague from his firm - pushing a shopping cart and collecting cans.
Times are tough. Anyone can be hit by the homeless bat. Anyone can slip up and lose everything they had. In this life, anything you have, anything you build, just anything... can be taken from you in just a quick moment.
Finally, being homeless doesn't coincide with being athiest, as you so eloquently posted. A lot of people, from many different walks of life, different religious backgrounds, etc. find themselves in the same spot. Some call it a test from god, others call it tough luck, but all in all it's hard times. You don't kick a person when they are down. Religious or not, that's just bad upbringing.
As for the homeless guy, I can see his point of view. While he appreciated the gesture of the police officer, he's been on the streets long enough to know that there is a lot of desperation out there. That desperation can cost a person their life. I can also see his point in news agencies running his story, collecting money in ad revenue on the pages his stories are on, staying afloat while he's still stuck at the bottom. Unfortunately he's just a story that will be forgotten when the next good Samaritan/tough luck story comes about.
Joe Muzila......EFFING WoW.......many homeless people are mentally ill!!!! Many homeless people have had jobs working in corporate businesses!......Another homeless person may have killed him for the shoes to sell them.....Know the dynamics of what you are dealing with before you comment....What the officer did was an extremely kind gesture.......try feeding a homeless person.....bring him back to reality? He lives HIS reality everyday ...no shelter, the clothes on his back, eating out of a trash can......no shower.......yet he is alive and survives......do you know his story? How he became homeless.......no child grows up saying I want to eat y out of a garbage can andn the street. ....with..you comment.....really?......wow!!!
Seriously? Somebody rob this man and bring him back to reality. The story wasn't about him... It was about what the officer did. This is why I follow my churches request to not give to them. THey can get off their asses and work like every athiest should (Cause they can't pray to GOD for a miricle.) Or go to church for guidance and help. (Not to the tax payers by any means).
