Whole Foods Donating 57 Salad Bars To NYC Public Schools

What a great idea and way to go Whole Foods! Let us hope you guys recreate this kind act for many more cities and states! To celebrate the opening of a new store, the natural food chain is donating salad bars to 57 New York City schools.

Valued at $300,000, the salad bars are part of a citywide initiative to install the healthy alternative in all public schools by 2015. I must say, I had no idea that more than 1,000 salad bars were already being enjoyed by hungry little buggers.

Speaking of little buggers, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg got in on the publicity by joining with Whole Foods officials for the announcement. He credited himself with newer progressive health policies aimed at reducing childhood obesity rates over the five years.

“Giving every student access to healthy fruit and vegetables is the next step in countering the obesity epidemic and getting kids started on a healthy habit for life,” Bloomberg said.

Whole Foods Northeast Regional President Christina Minardi said, “We are always committed to serving and supporting the local community not only with good food, but also as a good neighbor.”
