Teri Shileds, 75, mother of actress, Brooke Shields, was checked out of a New Jersey nursing home by tabloid reporters, says Brooke Shields.
Brooke told PEOPLE she is “Outraged” and “I intend to take every lawful action against all who were involved or who authorized this despicable act.” Brooke went on to say, “My mother Teri Shields has been diagnosed with dementia. For her safety, she has temporarily been in a senior living facility, a very difficult decision for me…” then “Late Thursday afternoon, I was alerted by Old Tappan Police that my mother had been signed out of the facility by two reporters of the National Enquirer … who falsely claimed they were friends of hers.”
Police located Teri at a restaurant adjacent to the home where she is housed, where she was chatting with “some sort of journalist” cops said. Teri was not harmed in any way and was retruned to the home. Police stated that they are looking into why the facility let Teri go with the men and if any protocol was violated or not.
Chances are the reporters did nothing illegal by removing elder Sheilds from the home. It would be more along the lines of “permission” and whether or not the Shields family gave such visitation instructions to facility staff.
Illegal or not, the move by reporters does seem to take reporting to a questionable level. Popular tabloid “National Enquirer”, released a statement stating, “A freelance reporter who has known Teri Shields for more than 10 years visited her Thursday at the assisted living facility where Brooke says she moved her. Teri asked the reporter to take her out to lunch and to run some errands. The freelance reporter then got permission from the facility to do so.”
Others are asking what Teri Shields is doing in a rest home in the first place. One would expect someone like Brooke Shields would be able to arrange for her mother to be in home care. Teri Shield was instrumental in making her daughter famous, managing Brooke meticulously to superstardom. Now to learn Teri he has been placed in a facility is quite sad. Brooke spoke of placing her mother in assisted living, “a very difficult decision for me.” The tougher choice is to keep the parent at home, where they belong, and just deal. Having the sick parent housed in a place foreign to them, especially when dementia is in play, can make matters much worse for the ailing parent, while alleviating the situation for the healthy people still living at home, it really is the equivalent of “carting them off, out of sight, out of mind.”

Ppl like you get all the brains. I just get to say tahkns for he answer.
BROWNEYES, PLLEASE DON'T CONFUSE judgment with Caring..
Yes Browneyes I've walked that VERY LONG ROAD 2 TIMES. .
I had Two (2) Mothers, My Mother and my Mother-in-law at the same time. Both with dementia. My Mother in one bedroom and Mother-in-law in another bedroom.
Home nurses are a lot of help BUt as we both know that it's a 24/7 illness. dementia doesn't allow the people with it to know if it's Day or Night, if their hungry or not, who or where they are.
I've watched the levels that dementia takes as it progresses and wondered, Oh my God, when will this end."
I know that it's not ours to ask why or when. As a Daughter I did what I felt was right for OUR Mothers. I'm glad that I made that choice.
In answer to your question, "What is the difference of having home nurses or putting them in a skilled facility?"
The difference is, they don't get lost in a shuffle of a nursing home. Their at home with family that loves them and chooses to take care of them.
I'm not Shallow, hateful or close minded, I was with both Mothers until they passed, sat by both of their bed sides,
Held their hand and told them how very much I loved and will miss them.
BROWNEYES, I Commend you for taking care of your mother at home. Believe me when the end comes you'll be glad that you chose that road.
Respect,
PattiBlueEyes
PattiBlueEyes with such judgement. Do you have an elderly parent with dementia living in your home? It is the hardest thing in the world even if you have full time care. I have been there and still am there taking care of a mother with demetia and yes we do have home nurses.
It isn't always about money but sometimes interaction with others. Dementia effects every member of the household even with home nurses. If I had to do it all over again I would have chosen a nursing home for the sake of my parent and other family members.
Don't be so judgemental especially if you haven't walked that road. There are numerous levels of dementia and unless you have lived with Brooke's mother or been around her for extended time you really have no idea what someone is going through.
What is the difference of having Home nurses or putting them in a skilled nursing facility. They are still being taken care of by a nurse and not yourself. Shame on you for being so shallow, hateful and closed minded.
COUNT, As I said in My Comment,
"You just don't toss a Mother away just because you don't want to care for her. Brook has a BIG HOUSE and Mega BUCKS, SO!!!!!! She should bring her Mother home and have HOME NURSES care for her MOTHER.
As Far as the Poster above TIA, I'll have some strong words for her later.
This Tia works in a Nursing Home so of course she agrees with BROOK.
Gimmy A break, we know that this TIA gets PAID for taking care of people in nursing Homes.
"POOF I say" BROOK, SHAME ON YOU
PattiBlueEyes
i think it depends on what you;e been through
The above poster has obviously never had to deal with a parent with dementia, I have also worked in a nursing home for a few years. Children do not put their parents in living facilities to "cart them off". There are times when laymen cannot adequately care for their loved ones. Ever heard of Sun Downers? Probably not. You should look it up. Try and step of your ill advised high horse and look at the facts. Shields even says that it was one of the toughest decisions she has had to face. Blame from someone on the outskirts of the situation doesnt help.
SHAME, SHAME ON YOU BROOK.
Why would you put your MOTHER in a NURSING HOME.??
Your Mother not only gave BIRTH to you she MADE YOU A STAR.
She devoted her life to you.Guess you forgot the way it goes,
"When a Mother gets older and has health problems, she goes to live with her Family. Meaning you BROOK, Your Mother should be living with YOU her DAUGHTER. :-(
You just don't toss a Mother away just because you don't want to care for her.
BROOK, one day you will be the ELDER so lets just pray that your kids dont do the same to you.
From a very sad,
PattiBlueEyes
