PULASKI COUNTY. VA. (THECOUNT) — Chandler S. Dowell, of Fairlawn, Virginia has been identified as the victim of a Pulaski County fatal stabbing early Saturday morning.

Brent E. Harrell, 19, also of Pulaski, Va., has been charged with 2nd-degree murder in the death of Dowell, also 19.

Virginia State Police say Harrell and Dowell engaged into a verbal altercation after 2 a.m. Saturday while outside Harrell’s dwelling located in the 7800 block of Cleburne Boulevard in Pulaski County.

During the altercation, Harrell presented a knife and stabbed Dowell. The weapon was later recovered by officials at the scene.

Dowell was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of stab wounds.

His remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for examination and autopsy, WDBJ7 reported Sunday afternoon.

Police say Harrell was taken into custody at the scene without further incident. He is currently housed at the New River Regional Jail on a no-bond order.

The investigation remains ongoing.
