SAN ANTONIO, TX. (THECOUNT) — A man was killed Tuesday when he was allegedly shot while attempting to steal an item from the front yard area of a San Antonio home on Tuesday.

Police are investigating after a homeowner shot at a man after catching him attempting to steal a car jack from his driveway at a South Side San Antonio home.

The resident fired on the suspect who then fled in a vehicle before crashing it a short time later.

The incident unfolded just before 6:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Jennings Avenue. According to San Antonio police, a resident on the street caught a suspect trying to steal the jack from his driveway. The resident opened fire on the suspect, who then fled down the street in a sedan. He crashed a short distance from the shooting. source

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are trying to determine whether the deceased suspect died by gunshot or blunt force injuries suffered in the crash.

Investigators did not say if anyone was cited or charged in the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
