LONG BEACH, CA. (THECOUNT) — Anna Perez, of Long Beach, California, has been identified as the victim shot dead after hit by crossfire early Saturday morning.

Perez, 24, was shot dead in a Long Beach parking lot Saturday after a group of adults opened fire in the area of 4th Street and Pacific Avenue, in Long Beach, CA, around 2 a.m., Saturday.

Officers responded to 4th Street on a call of shots fired, according to a statement from the Long Beach Police Department. Upon arrival, Perez was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her upper torso.

EMS arrived and Perez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police do not believe Perez was part of either group, the statement said.

“The preliminary investigation suggests the shooting was the result of a verbal altercation in a parking lot between two groups of male and female adults,” the statement said. source

“The suspect was described by witnesses as an African-American male adult and was last seen leaving the area in an unknown color sedan,” police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
