SHREVEPORT, LA. (THECOUNT) — Shanette Carter, from Gibsland, Louisiana, has been identified as the Ringgold victim killed at home by a stray bullet Saturday night.

Carter, 31, was discovered shot in the back by authorities who were called to a report of shots fired around 7:45 p.m. at the Bienville One apartments, located at, 2000 Military Rd, in Ringgold, LA.

According to the Bienville Parish Sheriff, a fight in the parking lot of the complex led to a shooting where the victim’s 5-year-old daughter found her mother seated on the living room couch suffering from a gunshot wound.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child came out of the apartment to notify neighbors that her mother was asleep and wouldn’t wake up. When the neighbors went to check, they realized she was deceased. source

According to BPSO, two people were targeted during the shooting as they were running up the stairwell to get away from the altercation, and one of the bullets went through the victim’s apartment as she was sitting on her couch.

While questioning witnesses, authorities received another call about a shooting victim. That victim turned out to be one of the two people that were targeted in the stairwell at the apartment complex of the deceased victim.

This is an ongoing investigation.

According to Facebook, Carter was a cashier at Quick Draw Truck Stop and Casino and a former nurse assistant at Cypress Point Nursing Home. She studied business management at Bossier Parish Community College and attended Ringgold High School, according to Facebook.
