CHANNAHON, IL. (THECOUNT) — Baldur Kirschof of Minooka, has been identified as the swimmer found dead in the Plaines River near Channahon.

Kirschof, 47, was discovered Tuesday morning and was confirmed the swimmer reported missing in the Des Plaines River near Harborside Marina around 7 p.m. on Sunday. An autopsy was completed late Tuesday confirming his cause of death to be drowning.

Channahon Fire Chief John Petrakis said Kirschof jumped off a recreational boat into the Des Plaines River and never surfaced.

The Channahon Fire Protection District has been working in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and several other agencies to locate the swimmer who was reported missing in the Des Plaines River near Harborside Marina around 7 p.m. on Sunday. Channahon Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Toepper said during a Tuesday morning search at approximately 8:48 a.m., a subject matching the description of the missing male was located in the Des Plaines River near his last seen location. source

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan says there are conflicting details at this time as to how 47 year-old Baldur Kirschof Minooka actually went into the water, and said there are no further details surrounding his death at this time.
