William Tyler Tuttle, the North Carolina man who made local headlines this week after severely injured himself while breaking into several homes and a Wilmington church, has died.

Tuttle, 29, was attempting to break into the Temple Baptist Church, located 1801 Market St., early Friday morning, as well as several homes when he critically injured himself on broken glass, according to the Wilmington Police Department,

Officials sayTuttle was taken to New Hanover Medical Center and placed in the intensive care unit after injuring himself on a glass window. Friday evening, a police spokesperson confirmed that Tuttle died at the hospital. source

Tuttle, who allegedly was under the influence of impairing substances, broke into multiple homes in the 1800 block of Princess Street and Chestnut Street and attempted to break into Saint Paul’s Church at 16th and Market.

One victim posted to Facebook, saying a blood covered Tuttle broke into their home and took his pants off to assure them he was “unarmed,” at one point walking past cash left out of a dining room table.
