Police examined the candy and discovered an approximately one-inch-long nail lodged in the chocolate. The child was not seriously injured, authorities said.

Investigators believe the candy may have come from a residence near the Westmoor School area. The home was reportedly decorated for Halloween with large spiderwebs.
Police described a potential suspect as an older man with gray hair and blue eyes who was wearing dinosaur pajamas. Authorities have not announced an arrest or identified a suspect publicly.
Scottsbluff police are urging parents to carefully inspect Halloween candy for signs of tampering. Anyone who discovers suspicious candy or has information about the incident is asked to contact the department.
The investigation is centered on the Westmoor School area of Scottsbluff, in Nebraska’s Panhandle, near the Wyoming border.
