TUSCALOOSA, AL. (THECOUNT) — Kurtae’vious Earl Tyson and Daronte Collins, both 20 and from Oxford, are accused of attempting to rob a 25-year-old Tuscaloosa man before an exchange of gunfire left Tyson dead Saturday evening at Magnolia Apartments in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Collins has been charged in connection with the incident.
According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, officers responded around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10, 2026, after receiving a report that a shooting victim was being transported to DCH Regional Medical Center from the 1000 block of Investigator Dornell Cousette Street.

Investigators later determined that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Magnolia Apartments, located at 5621 Highway 69 South.
After processing the scene and interviewing multiple involved parties and witnesses, investigators determined that Tyson and Collins attempted to rob the unidentified 25-year-old man. Police said shots were exchanged during the incident.
Tyson was critically injured and later died from his injuries, police said.
Police have not released information about whether the 25-year-old man was injured in the incident.
Collins was charged with felony murder, first-degree robbery, attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. Under Alabama law, a person may face a felony-murder charge when someone dies during the commission of certain felonies, including robbery, even if the accused is not alleged to have fired the fatal shot. Police have not publicly identified who fired the shot that killed Tyson.
Collins is accused of the offenses and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Magnolia Apartments is located along Highway 69 South in Tuscaloosa, a city in west-central Alabama near the Black Warrior River and approximately 60 miles southwest of Birmingham.
