SAN ANTONIO, TX. (THECOUNT) — Dionisiah Edwards Carpeal, 36, of San Antonio, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say she deliberately drove her SUV into her former boyfriend and his new girlfriend Monday evening, September 28, killing the woman in a Northwest Side parking lot.

Officers were dispatched around 5:45 p.m. to the 9700 block of Datapoint Drive near Wurzbach Road after receiving reports of a fight and learning that a silver SUV had struck at least one person.

Police found a 37-year-old woman suffering from major injuries and a 39-year-old man who had also been struck. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Her identity had not been released as of Wednesday, pending confirmation by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The surviving man told investigators he had been in a relationship with Edwards-Carpeal for about six years. After their relationship ended, he said she repeatedly called and texted him after learning he was dating the woman who was killed.

According to the arrest affidavit, the man and woman were walking from a nearby Wendy’s toward a residence when Edwards-Carpeal began slowly driving alongside them in her SUV. She reportedly called out to the man before a nearby security guard approached the vehicle and told her to leave the couple alone.

The man told investigators he heard the SUV’s tires screech before Edwards-Carpeal accelerated toward the pair. He said the vehicle struck both victims, throwing him onto the hood and windshield before he fell to the ground. He suffered injuries to his ankle and back.

A witness told investigators the woman was dragged underneath the SUV before a rear tire ran over her. Two additional witnesses described seeing the SUV swerve toward the victims before striking them.

One witness said Edwards-Carpeal turned the SUV around after the collision and drove back toward the injured victims. The witness told police the driver looked out the driver’s-side window at the woman before leaving the area.

An employee who witnessed the confrontation recorded portions of the incident, according to the affidavit. Investigators said the video supported witness accounts of the SUV striking the victims.

A security guard also photographed the SUV as it left the scene. Investigators used its license plate to identify the vehicle as being registered to Edwards-Carpeal. The surviving victim subsequently identified Edwards-Carpeal as the driver from a photograph, according to the arrest affidavit.

The surviving man also told investigators that Edwards-Carpeal had attempted to run him over twice during the week before Monday’s incident, according to the affidavit.

Edwards-Carpeal was arrested Tuesday, September 29, and booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A judge set her combined bond at $400,000.

The woman killed in the incident has not yet been publicly identified. The surviving man’s name also has not been released in current public reports. The investigation remains ongoing.

Datapoint Drive is located on San Antonio’s Northwest Side in Bexar County, near Wurzbach Road and west of Interstate 10. The area is part of the San Antonio metropolitan region of South Texas.
