BIRMINGHAM, AL. (THECOUNT) — Jordin Jacobie Coles, 18, of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, was killed Tuesday morning in a motorcycle-related crash on Interstate 65 in Jefferson County near Birmingham, authorities said.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified Coles as the victim following the fatal collision, which occurred in the northbound lanes of I-65 near the University Boulevard exit.

According to Birmingham Police, the crash was reported at approximately 3:46 a.m. Tuesday after Coles was involved in a collision with a motorcycle.
According to reports, Coles was driving a Cadillac ATS sedan when it sideswiped a motorcycle and then veered off the interstate. The Cadillac traveled down the embankment toward University Boulevard, and Coles was ejected from the vehicle.
Emergency crews responded to the interstate following the crash. Coles was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4 a.m.
The motorcyclist is expected to recover.
The northbound portion of I-65 in the area was closed for approximately three hours while police investigated the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway.
The interstate reopened around 6 a.m., allowing traffic to resume through the area.
Coles was a resident of Pleasant Grove, a Jefferson County community located southwest of Birmingham. The crash occurred within the Birmingham metropolitan area, one of Alabama’s largest population centers and a major transportation hub served by Interstate 65.
Birmingham Police have launched an investigation into the collision. Authorities have not announced whether any citations or charges have been issued in connection with the crash.
Additional information regarding the motorcycle, the other people involved, possible injuries and the events leading up to the collision was not immediately available.
