LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA. (THECOUNT) — At least ten people were fatally shot Saturday night in in Monterey Park, California, a city about 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles. At least another 10 people were injured by gunfire.

The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. while thousands in the city celebrated the Lunar New Year.

The mass shooting occurred at a dance club on the 100 block of West Garvey Avenue in Monterey Park.

Police are seeking a male armed with a machine gun.

According to wikipedia, Lunar New Year is the beginning of a lunar calendar or lunisolar calendar year, whose months are moon cycles. The event is celebrated by numerous cultures in different ways and at different dates.

Saturday was the start of the two-day festival, which is one of the largest Lunar New Year events in Southern California.

The gunman remains on the loose.
