LABETTE COUNTY, KS. (THECOUNT) — Matayea Rose Lomax, of Pittsburg, Kansas and Melinda Rosano Smith, of Neodesha, Kansas, have been identified as the victims in a double-fatal two-vehicle crash in Labette County on Thursday night.

Lomax, 20 and Smith, 44, were both killed Thursday night in a head-on crash in near Parsons.

According to officials, Lomax was operating a Lincoln Zephyr traveling on US-400 near Parsons, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 10 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle then came into head-on contact with a Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Smith.

Lomax was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

A passenger in the Lincoln was uninjured.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

Four other Neodesha passengers in the Chevrolet were transported to area hospitals with unknown minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
