WOODBRIDGE, CT (THECOUNT) — Timothy Smith, of Prospect, CT, has been identified as the victim in a fatal off-duty vehicle crash on the Litchfield Turnpike in Woodbridge, CT, Sunday evening.

Smith, 56, a fire marshal for Orange, Connecticut, was killed in a crash in Woodbridge on Sunday.

According to police, Smith was operating a vehicle on Litchfield Turnpike near Downs Road around 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon when he was involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash.

Smith was the sole occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash, reports WFSB.

The volunteer fire department in Prospect posted condolences on social medial Monday morning, saying Smith had been driving back home after responding to a house fire in Orange.

“On behalf of the entire department, we send our condolences to all of Tim’s family, friends, and loved ones,” the department said in a Facebook post.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
