PHOENIX, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Kaniesha Sutton has been identified as the teen victim in a fatal vehicle crash in Phoenix, Arizona on New Year’s Day.

Police say a suspected drunk driver may be to blame for the 16 year old’s death.

Authorities say, 24-year-old Kelvin Allen was operating a Nissan Pathfinder northbound on 16th Street and East Roeser Road when the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway.

The Pathfinder then made contact with a block fence before coming to a rest.

Allen told police that he lost control of his car when he tried to pass a slower vehicle and the back end of his car collided with the front of another vehicle, reports ABC15.

Police say there six or seven people in the other car, including Sutton who was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected the vehicle.

Princess Kaniesha” was pronounced dead on the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

The other passengers suffered minor injuries, police say.

Officers say Allen was evaluated and police determined he was impaired. He was arrested and charged with manslaughter, aggravated assault, and endangerment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
