CHICAGO RIDGE, IL. (THECOUNT) — Joseph Jesk, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, has been identified as the suspect fatally shot in a police involved incident in Bridgeview on Tuesday evening, according to reports.

Jesk, 32, died after a police-involved shooting in Bridgeview Tuesday, says the medical examiner on Wednesday morning.

According to police, Jesk rear-ended an officer’s patrol vehicle near 103rd St & Harlem Ave in Chicago Ridge, outside Pete’s Fresh Market around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

When the officer exited his car to investigate the collision, police said Jesk exited his vehicle and pointed a gun at the officer, according to police.

Police said the officer pulled his weapon, fired his gun and hit Jesk, reports WGNTV.

Jesk was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

The officer involved was not injured during the incident.

An apparent handgun with evidence marker number one was among the items collected at the scene.

Illinois State Police is assisting in the investigation.

The officer was placed on paid leave as is protocol.

According to Jesk’s Facebook page, he moved to the Chicago area in August. He was a former member of the military “13B at U.S. Army”. He formerly worked as a former material handler at Alstyle Apparel & Activewear. He also worked at Domino’s Pizza. He graduated Lake Land College and Harold L. Richards High School. He now lived in Chicago, Illinois.
