A friend said Bonta, who played on the Douglas High softball team and was studying to be a nurse, “was a bright light to everyone that talked to her” and that she “wanted to help people.”

Bonta graduated from the Parkland high school months before a former student killed 17 students and staff and injured 17 others.

Bonta’s mom, Jan Kirkland, “could put a smile on anyone’s face and was the life of the party anywhere she went,” said the friend, Kacie Cahill. She also said Bonta and her boyfriend, Craig Newman, were “so in love” and perfect together, reports Sun-Sentinel.

Shotgun-wielding maniac 44-year-old Jason Dale Roseman, opened fire on Coconut Creek police officer, Andrew Renna, Saturday morning after he responded to calls of active domestic dispute at a Coconut Creek residence.

Renna arrived around 7 a.m. to the 4200 block of Northwest 57th Drive in the Coral Pointe subdivision, according to reports. Upon arrival on the scene, officers discovered two deceased people and a dead pit bull.

Officials found several rifles and what appeared to be an explosive device at the scene.

In a Saturday afternoon press conference, Coconut Creek Police Department Chief Butch Arnel said

“The report we received initially was that a female was banging on the neighbor’s door, asking for help,” Arnel said.

Renna, a 30-year-old, 4-half-year veteran of the police department, arrived at the scene in less than a minute. The suspect immediately began shooting at Renna’s vehicle, Arnel said.

Renna was struck with multiple rounds but was able to accelerate down the street, where was met by other first responders who helped transport him to Broward Health North, reports NBCWashington.

When approached by numerous officers at an intersection, the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Roseman, dropped his shotgun and surrendered.

Arnel said his officer suffered a punctured lung and is in a lot of pain, but he’s expected to be OK.

A woman was found dead on the driveway next door. At the driveway of another home, a man was found injured.

A male victim was found on the second floor, where police also located several rifles and ammunition. In the garage, they found “what appeared to be an IED – an improvised explosive device,” Arnel said.

The suspect is in “extremely critical condition,” according to Arnel.

The identities of those killed and the man who was injured have not yet been released.

According to Facebook, Roseman is originally from Hickory, North Carolina and he lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to Facebook.
