SOUTH TEXAS. (THECOUNT) — According to preliminary reports, an unidentified Texas DPS trooper was shot around 8:45 p.m. Saturday after approaching a car crash near Edinburg, Texas. The suspect then fled the scene.

The suspect, identified as Victor Alejandro Godinez, 24, of Edinburg, was taken into custody late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

The injured trooper has not been identified, but Texas DPS-South Division’s Twitter reports that he is out of surgery and in critical but stable condition, reports EastTexasMatters.

(ORIGINAL INFORMATION:) A DPS deputy has reportedly been shot in a McAllen, Texas subdivision. The condition of the officer was not immediately made available.

A manhunt is ongoing for a suspect after a DPS trooper was shot in McAllen on Saturday night.

The shooting reportedly occurred near W Freddy Gonzalez Dr & N 10th St in McAllen, TX.

DPS tweeted that everyone is being asked to stay away from the area, accoring to ValleyCentral.
