GREENSBORO, NC. (THECOUNT) — WFMY News 2 is reporting the sad news that longtime anchor, Lee Kinard, passed away Saturday morning before 7 a.m. He was 86.
Kinard, who started working at WFMY on April 16, 1956, died Saturday surrounded by family at Moses Cone Hospital. Family members said the “Walter Cronkite of Greensboro,” was just shy of celebrating his 87th birthday November 5th. He and his wife Anne had just recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

Kinard was known locally as “the father” of the Good Morning show.
“Respectfully, Lee was the Walter Cronkite of Greensboro… but his influence, service and love of community extended beyond the news desk. He was a pioneer and will be remembered,” said WFMY President & GM Larry Audas. source
Kinard gave local organizations a forum to connect with the community, while spotlighting education.
