Detroit authorities are saying that the death of Chris Cornell, Soundgarden and later Audioslave frontman, is being investigated as a possible suicide.

A police spokesman said Thursday, “basic things observed at the scene,” are driving the investigation towards concluding Cornell committed suicide. That “thing” is believed to be a note left behind by the prolific singer. Cornell was 52.

Cornell was found dead at the MGM Grand Detroit hotel. Reports say that Cornell’s wife, Vicky Karayiannis, called a family friend and asked him to do a welfare check on Cornell. The friend forced open a hotel room door and found Cornell lifeless on the bathroom floor.

Chris will leave behind a fortune worth an estimated $60 million to his family which include three kids, Daughter Toni Cornell, Daughter Lillian Jean Cornell and son, Christopher Nicholas Cornell.
