Lloyd Barrus, the man accused of shooting and killing a sheriff’s deputy, Mason Moore, in Montana is from Bakersfield, CA. 61,

Barrus, 61, and his son, Marshall Barrus of Montana, are accused of being involved in a shootout with a Broadwater County Sheriff’s deputy around 3 a.m. Tuesday. The deputy was killed.

Missoula County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Brenda Bassett said Lloyd Barrus was driving a white SUV with California plates. Bassett said the deputy pulled the men over on a speeding violation and a shootout ensued.

The shooting happened in Three Forks, west of Bozeman. Authorities said the deputy, Mason Moore, was a three year veteran of the department.

Montana Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle about 80 miles west of the shooting. She said multiple law enforcement agencies joined in the pursuit that continued nearly 100 miles into western Montana. Officers were able to stop the vehicle east of Missoula where a second shootout took place. h/t

Lloyd Barrus was taken into custody without incident. Marshall Barrus is accused of shooting at officers a second time. He was shot and taken into custody. His condition has not been released.

Lloyd Barrus was booked into the Missoula County Jail just after 7 a.m. Tuesday on a deliberate homicide charge. He is due in court Wednesday afternoon.
