NEW MARKET, VA. (THECOUNT) — Xavier Smith, 22, of New Market, Virginia, was killed Thursday morning when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Spotswood Trail and New Hope Road in Rockingham County. The pickup’s driver and passenger, both from Pawleys Island, South Carolina, were not injured.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 10:35 a.m. Thursday in McGaheysville.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Smith was riding a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Spotswood Trail at a high rate of speed when a 2026 Toyota pickup attempted to cross the highway from New Hope Road.
The motorcycle struck the side of the pickup, ejecting Smith into the median, state police said.
Smith was transported to Sentara RMH Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver and passenger in the Toyota, whose names were not released, were not injured.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the fatal collision.
