HORRY COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Gavan Goodman, 21, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, has been identified as the motorcyclist killed Wednesday afternoon in a collision involving a Toyota Tundra on Highway 501 in Horry County, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said Goodman died at the scene from blunt traumatic injuries following the crash, which occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 30.

According to Willard, Goodman was operating a motorcycle on Highway 501 when it collided with a Toyota Tundra as the pickup was pulling out of Sparks Toyota. The crash occurred near Dodge Lane, in the Highway 501 corridor serving the Myrtle Beach area.

Emergency crews responded to the crash, with Horry County Fire Rescue dispatched at approximately 3:15 p.m. Officials reported critical injuries following the collision, and the crash temporarily affected traffic along the Myrtle Beach-bound lanes of Highway 501.

Goodman was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner’s office determined blunt traumatic injuries were the cause of death.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the collision, with assistance from the Horry County Police Department. Investigators are expected to determine the sequence of events surrounding the crash and whether any additional factors contributed to the collision.

Highway 501 is a major east-west route through Horry County and connects the Myrtle Beach area with communities including Conway and the Murrells Inlet area. The crash occurred in a heavily traveled commercial section of the highway near Dodge Lane and Sparks Toyota.
