LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — Disney+ has updated its subscriber agreement to allow advertising, promotional material and sponsorship messaging across its subscription tiers, including the $18.99-per-month Premium plan, a change that expands what subscribers can encounter even while the service continues to market Premium as “No Ads.”

The updated agreement says Disney+ tiers described as “no ads” or “ad-free” are generally free of commercial interruptions, but can include limited promotional content, including clips and trailers promoting Disney+ or other Disney products and services, branded content, product integrations and sponsorship messaging.

Disney’s current U.S. Help Center confirms that Disney+ Premium remains free of commercial interruption for on-demand movies and shows. The company continues to list the Premium plan at $18.99 per month, or $189.99 annually.

However, Disney’s updated language gives the company broader latitude to place promotional or advertising material around programming. The agreement also states that certain live and linear content can contain advertisements regardless of a subscriber’s plan.

That includes live sports, news, special events, television streams and other programming that originates as traditional linear or live television. Those broadcasts can contain commercial breaks even for customers paying for Premium.

Disney’s Help Center says subscribers on the ad-supported Disney+ plan will see commercials during movies and shows, while Premium subscribers generally will not experience commercial interruption during the on-demand Disney+ library.

The distinction is significant for Premium customers because Disney continues to advertise the $18.99 tier as “Disney+ Premium (No Ads).” The company’s current pricing information specifically describes the plan as “No Ads,” while noting that advertising remains possible in select live and linear programming.

Disney’s revised subscriber agreement also acknowledges that “no ads” or “ad-free” tiers may contain limited promotional material. That means the traditional definition of completely advertising-free streaming has become more nuanced, even though ordinary Premium movies and shows remain commercially uninterrupted.

Disney+ is also warning subscribers through updated terms that advertising and promotional experiences can vary depending on the programming being viewed. The company does not promise that every type of content will carry the same advertising treatment.

There is one notable exception for younger viewers. Disney says profiles using Junior Mode will not experience ads during playback.

The changes come as streaming companies increasingly use a combination of subscription fees, advertising, sponsorships and promotional placements to generate revenue. Disney+ offers both an ad-supported tier and Premium, allowing subscribers to pay more for on-demand programming without traditional commercial interruptions.

For customers who primarily watch Disney+ movies and scripted series on demand, the Premium plan remains substantially different from the $11.99 ad-supported option. But subscribers watching live programming or special events can encounter commercial breaks regardless of which Disney+ tier they purchase.

The updated agreement therefore does not mean that Disney has suddenly begun inserting conventional commercials throughout every Premium movie or television episode. Instead, Disney has formally expanded the types of promotional and advertising content that can appear across the service while retaining commercial-free on-demand viewing as a principal Premium benefit.

Disney+ is available nationwide in the United States, with its service headquartered by The Walt Disney Company in Burbank, California. The streaming platform carries programming from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and other Disney-owned brands.
